Area Committee Funding
Area Committee Discretionary Budget
Our Council has allocated a Discretionary Budget and Tackling Poverty and Inequalities Budget to each of the four Area Committees to support their Priority Areas for 2024/25.
During May 2024, the four Area Committees met and agreed priorities for their area for both of these Budgets and details of the funds available are shown below.
Annandale and Eskdale
Annandale and Eskdale Area Committee agreed priority areas:
- Christmas Festivities
- Signature Events / Riding of the Marches
- Community Resilience
- Key local facilities / projects promoting Heritage, Culture and Community Spirit
- Music and Creative Arts (including Community Bands)
- Public Environment/Infrastructure
- Remembrance / Armed Forces / Commemoration
- Sport
- Ward Members Individual Awards
And have identified the following delivery partners who will receive a letter of grant offer.

SPORTS GRANTS
Annandale & Eskdale Area Committee has established the Annandale & Eskdale Sports Grants to support local athletes and Sport Clubs from A&E to develop sporting participation and activities. The Fund aims to support those that would not otherwise receive any financial help from National Governing Bodies in pursuit of their sport and to also assist groups and individuals to reach their sporting goals through small financial awards. Application form and criteria below:

At its meeting on 8 May 2024, Nithsdale Area Committee agreed a number of funding priorities and agreed to open schemes for the following:

Awards of up to £10,000 are available to organisations focusing on the following priorities to tackle poverty and inequality across Nithsdale:
- Digital Connectivity
- Food Insecurity
- Fuel Poverty
- Warm Hubs

UTILITY SUPPORT FUND; COMMUNITY CENTRES, TOWN HALLS AND VILLAGE HALLS
Small grant scheme to support utility costs specifically for Community Centres, Town Halls and Village Halls based on 50% of 2023-24 utility invoices, with a maximum grant of £2,000. Awards made on a first-come first-served basis.

NITHSDALE SPORTS GRANTS
Small grant programme for local athletes (up to £200) and sports clubs (up to £500). Support for local athletes that would not otherwise receive any financial help from National Sporting Bodies in pursuit of their sport and to also assist groups and individuals to reach their sporting goals through small financial awards.
We cannot fund any activity/costs committed to or paid for prior to a decision.
Nithsdale Sports Grants has a total budget of £8,000 and will open for applications with 2 distinct deadlines with decisions made shortly thereafter;

NITHSDALE REMEMBRANCE PARADE HOSPITALITY
Small grant programme to support hospitality after remembrance parades taking place in Nithsdale - up to £300. Awards made on a first-come first-served basis.

Stewartry
At its meeting on 15 May 2024, Stewartry Area Committee agreed a number of Funding Priorities and agreed to open grant schemes for the following:
TACKLING POVERTY AND INEQUALITIES
Awards of up to £7,500 are available to organisations focusing on the following Priorities to tackle poverty and inequality across the Stewartry. The allocation of Tackling Poverty and Inequalities Budget for Stewartry is £23,418. The minimum award that can be applied for is £1,000 and the maximum is £7,500.
The Priorities for funding are for projects that address:
- Digital connectivity*
- Food insecurity and clothing*
- Fuel poverty*
- Support for securing and sustaining tenancies
- Access to transport
- Access to employment
- Financial management
- Support for young people in relation to transport and mental health.
*Stewartry Area Committee welcome, in particular, projects that address the priorities in bold.

CRITERIA

The remaining budget of £39,686.52 is available to the following priority areas, and is NOW OPEN for applications:
- Youth - Support for young people to access youth development activities for people aged 12-25yrs - applications are invited up to £2,000 per Ward.
- Key Facilities - Support to key facilities* that contribute to the wellbeing of the community and increase social contact - applications are invited up to £4,000for the benefit of community owned/ managed buildings and facilities *(School buildings and transport are not considered in this particular Key Priority funding).
- Community Galas and Events - Support to local galas and key events - applications are invited up to £500.
All Discretionary Grant awards are delegated to the Lead Officer for decision through consultation with Ward Members, and is open until funds are spent.

TACKLING POVERTY AND INEQUALITIES - MAIN GRANT
Every project applying for funding must demonstrate how it will ultimately assist to reduce child poverty as well as one or more of the following Priorities:
- Food Insecurity
- Energy / Fuel
- Warm Hubs
- Digital Connectivity
Constituted Groups, operating in the Wigtown area, can apply for up to £10,000 towards projects which support one or more of the priorities.

- Digital Connectivity
Constituted Groups, operating in the Wigtown area, can apply for up to £2,000 towards projects which support one or more of the priorities.
This small grant scheme is delegated to the Lead Officer, in consultation with Local Ward Members allowing for faster disbursement of grant awards.
Applications will be assessed on a first-come first-served basis until funds are fully committed and will close on 2 August 2024.
