Dumfriesshire Educational Trust has several scholarships, bursaries and grant schemes to benefit residents living in the former county of Dumfriesshire who are either attending or looking to attend educational activities.

Postgraduate Scholarships and Supplementary Bursaries for Students
Postgraduate Scholarships and Supplementary Bursaries are available to young people who have been mainly educated in Dumfriesshire and are looking to attend a further or higher education (college or university) institution.
Educational activities can include:
- attending a course
- obtaining a qualification
- obtaining practical experience in a trade
- promoting education in visual arts
- promoting education in music
Financial assistance may also be available for travel or equipment expenses that arise with educational activities.
Award criteria
Awards may only be granted to individuals who:
- Normally resident in Dumfriesshire
- Educated in Dumfriesshire for a minimum of 5 years
- Enrolled in further of higher education (college or university)
- Have secured a Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) bursary for the 2023/24 academic year
How to apply
Applications are invited for this fund from 13 October to 24 November 2023.
Payment
Applications will be considered at a meeting of the Trust, usually at its January meeting. For successful applications, payment will be made directly to the applicant's personal bank account, details of which must be included in the application form.
Edinburgh Dumfriesshire Scholarship
The Edinburgh Dumfriesshire Scholarship available to secondary school pupils who have been mainly educated in Dumfriesshire and are looking to attend higher education at Edinburgh University.
Awards may only be granted to individuals who:
- Normally resident in Dumfriesshire
- Educated in Dumfriesshire for a minimum of 5 years
- Looking to attend the University of Edinburgh, or another further or higher education (FE/HE) institution in Edinburgh
Preference may be given to students entering the University of Edinburgh. The award currently stands at £200 per annum for up to four years.
Award criteria
Awards are based on S5 examination results together with a report from the Head Teacher of the school.
How to apply
Applications are currently closed for this fund. The fund normally opens for applications from 1 March to 30 June.
- Application will be added on 1 March
Application forms are also available from all Dumfriesshire secondary schools.
