Resettlement Project Board

The Dumfries and Galloway Resettlement Project Board was established in November 2015 in response to the Syrian Crisis.

The Community Planning Partnership agreed to participate in the UK Government's Syrian Vulnerable Persons' Relocation Scheme (SVPR) administered by the Home Office and paid for by the UK Government. In Dumfries and Galloway a commitment was made to resettle 20 families and by March 2021 this was achieved. Early in 2021 the Home Secretary announced that 20,080 Syrian refugees had been resettled in the UK.

During 2020/21 the Community Planning Partnership Board extended the project to include: EU returnees following UK Exit from the EU; Hong Kong returnees; and the Afghan Assistance and Relocation Policy and Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme. In March 2022 the remit was further extended to incude Ukrainian Guests; and in June 2023 to include support for the Home Office Asylum Seeker Dispersal Programme, and the use of contingency hotels.
