Disability sport

We help provide opportunities for people in Dumfries and Galloway with a physical, sensory or learning disability to take part in sports or physical activity.

We work closely with our partners through the Dumfries and Galloway Disability Sport (DGDS) charity to support regular participation in sport and physical activity for disabled people. This extends to the development of regional squads and teams who compete at various local, regional and national competitions.

The DGDS committee is made up of disability coaches, volunteers, and parents as well as representatives from the council, Scottish Disability Sport (SDS) and other disability organisations from the region.

A wide range of policies and procedures are in place because DGDS are a regional branch of SDS. This means that strict requirements are achieved for governance, child and vulnerable adult protection, education, training and communication.

DGDS have a Facebook page so that you can get the latest news:

Volunteering

It would be difficult to provide clubs and events without the help of loyal volunteers. We need people to support us through a variety of roles such as coaches, officials, fundraisers and committee members.

Email disabilitysport@dumgal.gov.uk if you can help.
