Active Communities

We work with community groups to deliver a range of activities or clubs which will encourage you to be more active, meet new people, do something new and have fun.

From our newest "Fit Stix" to Family Friendly classes where you can bring the children as well, Easiobics for those getting back into exercise and even something for women of a certain age...

All classes £3 per hour - No need to book, just turn up No need for fancy gym clothes, just wear comfortable exercise clothes, trainers and bring a bottle of water. Participants will be asked to fill in a health questionnaire at their first class

  • Of a certain age... - an exercise to music class specifically for women who are either peri-menopausal or menopausal (and beyond).  Exercise before, during and after menopause offers many benefits including, preventing weight gain, strengthening bones and boosting mood.
  • HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) -  a 30 minute high intensity class that targets the entire body through a mixture of cardiovascular and body weight exercises.
  • Family Friendly Aerobics - an energetic upbeat exercise to music class that is sure to get your body moving.  Classes combine cardio and toning exercises for a total body workout.  Added bonus that the little ones are welcome too!  They can join in or just chill out at the side (£1 per child if taking part)
  • Fit Stix -An energetic class that uses tap sticks to focus on core strength, fitness and rhythm.  Participants can use tap sticks (provided) to tap together whilst performing co-ordinated body movement to 'feel good' music. Class is suitable for teens through to adults.
  • Fit for Life - This top to toe toning and conditioning session will take place both indoor and outdoor. We aim to provide a relaxed session in a no pressure environment where all abilities are considered.
  • Let's Motivate - Classes that provide participants with gentle, simple and safe activities that focus on increasing physical activity, improving balance, co-ordination, mobility and help to prevent falls. The low-level activities will include - indoor curling, boccia (similar to boules and petanque), target games, seated exercises including pedal challenges, fun group games and much more.
  • Bridging Plus - Bridging Plus classes provide participants with a fantastic opportunity to try a variety of low impact sports and physical activity.  Activities will vary from week to week and will aid strength and balance, enable you to better manage your condition and help maintain a health active lifestyle. Example low-level activities could include badminton, table tennis, walking netball, exercise to music or indoor bowling
  • Stroll in the Park - low-level walks for anyone living with or recovering from a long-term condition.  Ideal for anyone wishing to continue their recovery or maintain a level of fitness by developing strength, balance and confidence.  Come along and enjoy being with a group of like-minded people.  We often stop in Mountainhall Café for a coffee after the stroll too!
  • Macmillan Move More Gentle Movement - a range of movement exercises that incorporate breathing techniques and mindfulness.  The exercises are designed to get you moving but also provide you with an opportunity to relax.  All exercises can be done seated or standing.
  • Wellbeing Walks - Our new Wellbeing Walks are an alternative to our popular power walks.  They are aimed at anyone who would like to increase their walking and build up their fitness at a comfortable pace.   We aim to reach approximately 2 miles on the walks, but this will depend on the ability of or walkers.  We are friendly, welcoming and we try to take different routes each week.  "A good walk can do wonders for your mental wellbeing.  It improves self-esteem, mood, mental health, sleep quality, and it reduced stress, anxiety and fatigue"
