Funded early learning and childcare providers 2018/19
Funded early learning and childcare is available through council run nurseries as well as a range of voluntary or private providers who've registered with us.
Eligible 2 year olds and all 3 and 4 year olds are entitled to a maximum of 600 hours of early learning and childcare which is funded through the council. Council nurseries and other registered partners deliver the funded provision in Dumfries and Galloway.
What is on offer
Council nurseries offer up to 5 sessions a week, each lasting 3 hours 10 minutes. Morning sessions start at 8.45am and afternoon session start at 12.15pm. Parents/carers can drop off and/or pick up children nearer school start and finish times but this time isn't transferable to other sessions.
Most council nurseries can offer two sessions in one day (6 hours 20 minutes) and the child will stay for lunch. Back to back sessions are only available to families who require all day provision for work and training purposes.
Other funded settings offer different patterns so you can request hours to suit your needs.
Choosing a provider
You can send your child to the provider of your choice. You're welcome to arrange visits to providers to find out what's on offer before making your choice.
The Care Inspectorate inspects all providers to make sure they meet national standards. They publish inspection reports so you can find out what quality of care you can expect:
You can also visit the Scottish Family Information Service website to find out more about services near you.
