Road occupation permits

You need permission from us if you want to occupy part of a road, path or carpark. You also need permission to carry out work on a road or carpark.

Application to occupy a road or carpark

You may want to occupy part of the road by:

  • using a skip
  • putting up scaffolding
  • displaying a hoarding or signage
  • storing building materials

Applications require at least 10 working days notice and in some cases may require 28 days notice.

Application to carry out work on a road or carpark

You may want to carry out work such as:

  • excavations
  • constructing a new access
  • repairing apparatus under the road
  • laying new pipes

Applications require at least 10 working days notice and in some cases may require 28 days notice.

Charges

There is a charge for different types of occupation or work. Failure to pay for work in advance will mean the fee is doubled unless otherwise agreed.
