Roadworks and road closures

Information about road works and closures in Dumfries and Galloway.

We're not responsible for all of the roads across Dumfries and Galloway and you can  to find out if we maintain specific routes.

We aren't responsible for trunk roads in the region:

  • A75, A76, A701 (from A75 to A74(M) only), A77 (Stranraer North) and A751 - Amey South-West Unit (call 0800 042 0188)
  • A7 - Bear Scotland (call 01738 448 600)
  • M74 - Autolink (call 08457 966 666)

Planned Roadworks

We publish notices advising of upcoming closures in the region, these notices are advertised on the Tellmescotland website and in local newspapers. You can also register for email alerts about upcoming roadworks on the Tellmescotland website .

Our road maintenance and geographical information systems are currently under review and, therefore, our interactive map showing work being carried out locally is unavailable at the present time.

Temporary Road Closures

Carriageway Resurfacing Works

Carriageway resurfacing works are taking place at B7068 Murrayfield to Scroggs.  Full daytime road closures will be required 09:00 to 17:00 daily between 19 and 23 September 2022.  

**Due to delayed start and poor weather, the road will be closed again from 7am until late afternoon 24 September 2022.  The road will be re-opened before 5pm on 24 September 2022**  

Alternative Routes - B7068-B722-B7076-B723 and vice versa

Pedestrian  and local access will be maintained

Rood Fair 2022

Temporary road closure A781 Whitesands (between Bank Street and Nith Street) and C202n (between Nith Street and St Michael's Bridge Road) between 6pm on 26 September 2022 and 10pm on 2 October 2022. 

Alternative Routes - Dockhead closed to northbound traffic - alternative route via St Michael's Bridge Road, St Michael's Street and Nith Street

                                  Whitesands closed to southbound traffic between Bank Street and Nith Street - alterantive route via Bank Street, Irish Street and Nith Street

Emergency access will be available if required

Pedestrian access will be maintained

The event also involves closure of Dockhead Car Park, Whitesands West Car Park and Brooms Road Car Park (adjacent to Brooms Road) between 6pm on 26 September 2022 and 11.30pm on 2 October 2022

Maintaining public roads

We inspect all our roads annually and make repairs according to priority.

You should report any defects causing an immediate danger to road users or pedestrians immediately by calling 030 33 33 3000.
