Meals on Wheels

The Royal Voluntary Service confirmed that they wish to stop the Meals on Wheels service nationally. In Dumfries & Galloway this service stopped at the end of September 2018.

There are no alternatives to replace the Meals on Wheels service like for like.   However, there are some organisations offering choices which you may wish to consider.

The Food Train

A local shopping delivery service staff by volunteers.  It will deliver chilled frozen 'ready meals' which you can reheat and a wide range of other groceries and other items from local supermarkets.  Annual membership costs £1 and deliveries can be made once a week and this cost £5 per delivery.  Food train members can also benefit from other services including: Food Train Extra, Befriending, and Community Meal Makers.
