Parking fines

We issue fines (fixed penalty notices) of £74 if vehicles are parked illegally. You get a 50% discount and only pay £37 if you settle the fine within 7 days.

You can appeal a parking fine in certain circumstances but should try to pay as soon as possible if you aren't planning to challenge the fine. The 50% discount is only available if you pay within 7 days, the full amount is payable within 21 days after this.

We can take further legal action if you don't pay or dispute the fine within 21 days.

Pay a fine

Pay online by credit or debit card

You'll need to provide:

  • the notice/ticket number
  • your name and address
  • credit or debit card details

You can also:

  • Call 030 33 33 3000 and pay by credit or debit card
  • Visit one of our Visit one of our Customer Service Centres and pay by cash, card or cheque
  • Send a cheque (payable to Dumfries and Galloway Council) to Community Safety, Culhorn Depot, Stranraer, DG9 7DE

Appeal against a fine

You can appeal against a parking fine on one of four grounds:

  1. You weren't the vehicle's owner, keeper or hirer when the ticket was issued.
  2. You didn't park incorrectly. For example, your vehicle wasn't there or your vehicle was parked in a parking bay with a valid disc/permit clearly displayed.
  3. Your vehicle was taken without your consent when the ticket was issued.
  4. You're a vehicle hire firm and have supplied the hirer's details.

You won't be eligible for a prompt payment discount (50% off) if you appeal and will have to pay the full cost of the fine after the initial 7 day period is over.

Appeals must be made in writing within 21 days of the ticket being issued. You can:

  • the ticket number
  • the vehicle registration
  • your contact details
  • the reason for your appeal
  • any evidence to support your appeal

Don't send a payment with your appeal.

We'll make a final decision within 14 days and write to explain the outcome.
