The goals of these partnerships are to co-ordinate action and to promote local involvement in social, economic and environmental development.

The aims are:

  • To provide effective links between strategic policy development and planning with front line agencies involved in operational implementation
  • To develop a capacity building approach to involve customers, citizens and communities in identifying their social, health, economic and cultural needs To improve existing arrangements for local Community Planning
  • To rationalise and revitalise existing local partnerships
  • To lead the implementation of a scheme of community consultation and participation to improve upon existing practice
  • To establish an effective working partnership with the Council’s Local Area Committees as a means to agree local priorities regarding service and policy development
  • To make best possible use of existing resources and to promote the delivery of improved services avoiding the duplication of effort and resources.

Public, private, voluntary sector and community sector organisations all have a part to play in improving the quality of life of the people who live and work in Dumfries and Galloway. The more they can work together with local people the more they can achieve and the more likely it is that social and economic development happens and is sustained across the region. Local Rural Partnerships will enable public services to work better and to be delivered in a way that meets people’s needs. The partnerships will also enable local people to influence decision making and to take action to improve their quality of life.

The Local Rural Partnerships decide on the full range of their work according to the priorities of the area.

Each Local Rural Partnership has a Community Planning Co-ordinator or Lead Officer – these are listed below. You can get more information about each partnership by clicking where indicated on the menu.
