Carbon management has become a major responsibility for all local authorities. The Council has to act to tackle climate change in response to legal and financial commitments which were put in place as a result of global concerns.

Dumfries and Galloway Council established a Sustainable Development Team in 2010 with an initial remit to reduce the carbon footprint of the Council.

In the longer term, the Sustainable Development team will help to support local activities to address climate change and carbon management across the region.

• Launch of Council's New Carbon Management Plan!
  The revised Carbon Management Plan (CMP2) was approved in January and is now being implemented around our Council. This document details the driving factors behind our Council cutting carbon emissions and shows how we will meet carbon reduction targets set for us through national legislation. By cutting carbon emissions our Council is taking a crucial step in acting against climate change, which is thought to be the biggest threat to the present and future generations.
