The Birdwatching in Dumfries & Galloway booklet

The Birdwatching in D&G Booklet which is now available, is an important publication as it highlights some of the best Birdwatching sites from Portpatrick in the west to Langholm in the east. Anyone who has an interest in birds, whatever the season should have a copy of this beside their ID books.

This 4th Edition of the hugely popular booklet, boasts stunning photographs of birds found across our region, along with hints and tips on the best vantage points to view them. There is now a small charge of £2.50 for the booklet, which will be available from many sites in the area including RSPB, National Trust for Scotland, Libraries and Tourist Information Centres.

If you would like a copy posted out, please send a cheque for £2.50 which will cover the cost of the booklet plus postal charges. The cheque should be made payable to 'Dumfries and Galloway Council' and sent to:

Wild Goose Chase

Following on from the success of Wild Goose Chase in previous years get set for Wild Goose Chase 2013 running throughout March.

Once again Dumfries and Galloway Council  are teaming up with NTS Threave at Kelton Mains, RSPB Mersehead and WWT Caerlaverock, to bring you fabulous opportunities to view the thousands of geese that overwinter in the area.

By travelling from Caerlaverock in the east, via Mersehead, Kelton Mains and Loch Ken, and the Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve, to Loch Ryan in the west, you can see all six species of geese that spend the winter here: barnacle, Canada, brent, pink-footed, greylag and Greenland white-fronted, as well as two species of swan, mute and whooper.

There will be a series of guided walks and tours throughout the month in each location, as well as special events for families and children.
