As Chief Executive, Gavin Stevenson has ultimate responsibility for the Council and provides leadership and motivation. He co-ordinates policy development and oversees general management through the Corporate Management Team (CMT). He is also Head of Paid Service for all Council employees.

Gavin Stevenson took up the position of Chief Executive with Dumfries and Galloway Council in July 2009. 

He has more than 20 years experience of managing in the public sector, most recently as Executive Director of Corporate Services for Perth and Kinross Council. 

Previous jobs include Director of Audit Scotland; senior roles in the NHS, Department of Social Security, Audit Commission and retail.

Qualifications include membership of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants (CIPFA); BSc in Computer Science from Edinburgh University.
