![]() | The South West Scotland Screen Commission promotes Dumfries and Galloway as a location for film, television and commercial productions with the aim of maximising the economic benefit that production can bring to the region. By co-operating with other national bodies, our aim is to make filming in Dumfries and Galloway as smooth running as possible in a film friendly environment. The economic benefits of film industry productions in Dumfries and Galloway are many. There are the direct economic benefits of the money spent on wages, products and services. Productions can also play a part in creating and retaining jobs within the region, as they allow freelance film crew members and support services to earn their living. |
These commercial media projects are much like having a new, medium-size business move into the community, except that they can generate thousands of pounds of activity over a few months instead of a few years. There are also the indirect benefits that productions provide through the exposure of the region on screen in both cinema and on television to audiences worldwide.
Film tourism accounts for 10% of the total value of tourism to the British economy - about £1.8 billion per year.
The Screen Commission works closely with Creative Scotland, the national organisation for the arts, creative industries and film and is a member of the Scottish Locations Network.
