Recycling centres

There are currently 12 household waste recycling centres in Dumfries and Galloway for householders to use which provide recycling, composting and recovery for a large range of household materials.

Anyone caught committing a fly tipping offence by dumping waste outside a recycling centres will be prosecuted.

Once you've entered details for your home you will see the name of your nearest recycling centre listed with a link back to that site's information. You can also use this tool to find out which Councillors represent you, where your nearest Council Office is and what your Council Tax band will be.

There are also over 40 Household Waste Recycling Points at various locations such as supermarket car parks across Dumfries and Galloway which can be a useful and convenient alternative for disposing of certain recyclable household waste.

Please note that Recycling Centres are for household waste recycling only and are not licensed to accept commercial waste, these facilities should not be used for recycling waste generated from commercial or industrial activity under any circumstances.

Changes to Household Waste Recycling Centres

Over the next two years there will be changes made to Household Waste Recycling Centres across the region. These include:

  • Changes to the opening hours;
  • The creation of a new Household Waste Recycling Centre at Newton Stewart; and
  • The creation of two new Zero Waste Parks in Dumfries and Stranraer, both of these sites will include a Reuse Centre.

These changes are part of a series of changes to the provision of waste services which are designed to help meet the requirements of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2012.
