You can pay to have larger items collected if they will not fit in your household bin. The Council's bulky uplift service allows householders to dispose of items such as sofas, tables, beds, garage doors, bicycles and mattresses.

Alternatively, householders can take large items to local Household Waste Recycling Centres for disposal.

What can be collected?

Our bulky uplift service is suitable for: 

• Old and unusable furniture (sofas, tables, beds, mattresses etc.)
• Garden waste
• Large items (pianos, sheds etc.)
• Bathroom suites
• Metal items (garage doors, metal bed frames, metal greenhouse frames, radiators, bicycles, barbecues

There may be other items that can be uplifted which are not on the above list, if in any doubt check.

What cannot be collected?

Our bulky uplift service is not suitable for: 

• White goods (fridges, freezers, washing machines etc.)
• Glass
• Car batteries
• Fencing wire
• Oil
• Paint
• Tyres

Costs

Charges are made for bulky uplifts based on the amount of waste to be collected:

• Up to 3 large items or 10 black bags - £10.96
• Plastic/ceramic bathroom suites (bath. toilet and basin) - £31.36
• Individual bathroom items - £10.96
• Other large items (pianos, sheds etc.) - visit required to determine price

Annandale and Eskdale
Monday: All locations except those listed below
Tuesday: Canonbie, Eaglesfield, Eskdalemuir, Gretna, Kirkpatrick Fleming, Langholm, Rigg and Waterbeck

Nithsdale
Bulky items are uplifted on the same day as the normal bin collection. However, metal items are collected on Thursdays.

Stewartry
Bulky items are uplifted on the same day as the normal bin collection. However, metal items are collected on Mondays.

Wigtownshire
Bulky items are uplifted on the same day as the normal bin collection. However, bathroom suites / suite items and metal items are collected on Wednesdays.

Requests for uplifts should be made as earlier as possible to ensure the Council can uplift item(s) on the next scheduled collection day. Once an uplift is requested, large items of waste should then be placed on the kerbside by 7.30am on the arranged collection day.
