This rural school in the Machars area of Wigtownshire enjoys a central location and picturesque views of rolling landscapes and the Southern Uplands. Set in a close-knit village community the school enjoys good support from local residents and families alike. Only 14 miles from Newton Stewart, and the main A75 Carlisle to Stranraer trunk road, children attending this school take part in many activities both on a regional and national basis.
Both Sorbie and Garlieston Primary School enjoy a weekly cluster day which is based on collaborative activities and many vital gains are achieved both on an educational and social perspective. The Parent Council enjoys an excellent working relationship with staff and supports the everyday life and work of both schools. There is currently one composite class.
The school has clear vision of providing the very best learning and teaching experiences to prepare children for life in the 21st Century. The school has already achived it's second Green Flag for efforts to reduce it's carbon footprint and educate it's pupils in how to care for their environment and is well on the way to achieving the third. The school garden is maintained by the children with the assistance of parents.
Sorbie Primary School embraces all principles and values that Curriculum For Excellence brings and is proud of its level of attainment, achievement and active participation of all its young people.
