Pupils come mainly from the village itself and the surrounding farms and cottages. 

In recent years there has been a significant number of placing requests from the residential area of Woodlands nearer Dumfries. There are also a few pupils from the enlarged catchment area when nearby Auldgirth Primary School closed in 2000.
