The school was built in 1963 and has recently undergone a major refurbishment. The old school, in use until 1963, is situated at the bottom of the playground and is now used as a Pre-School Centre.
The catchment area is wide, stretching four miles up the Moniaive road, four miles towards Corsock, four miles down to Newtonairds by Morrinton Quarry, three miles to Glenmidge and three miles to Burnhead.
Transport to/from school is provided for pupils who live more than two miles away up to the age of eight, and three miles away over the age of eight.
Meals are made on the premises.
