The school is situated in Glencaple and is surrounded by an educationally rich environment including farmland, the River Nith/Estuary, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Wardlaw Hill and Caerlaverock Castle.

Although set in the country, Caerlaverock Primary School is situated 5 miles from the busy town of Dumfries on the B725 road and the service bus No 371 arrives from Dumfries in time for the start of the school day at 9 am.

There are three teaching bays, a multi purpose open area, a noisy/quiet room and kitchen/dining facilities. Outdoors pupils have access to all weather courts plus a grassed pitch.
