Safer Routes to Schools

The Safer Routes to School scheme at Castle Douglas Primary improved safety and addressed concerns raised by members of the public and the School Board on indiscriminate parking, difficulties with bus manoeuvres, inadequate signing, vehicle speeds and traffic volumes during school time.

The scheme consisted of installing road humps, a build-out at the entrance to the school car park, delineating parking areas, promoting 20 mph speed limit and waiting restrictions, upgrading of street lighting and provision of new road signing.
