The Dumfries Skate Park was developed in close consultation with the Unity Wheeled Projects Group, a charitable organisation formed in 2000 by local skaters to progress and promote the scheme. The skatepark is located on unused Council land at Kingholm Quay Playing Fields adjacent to the River Nith to the south of Dumfries.

There were numerous options considered for the skatepark before a final layout was agreed. The main features are:

  • a fun box
  • semi bowls
  • square rails
  • steps
  • flat banks
  • a big hip
  • benches
  • ledges of various heights
  • a curved ledge with flowing smooth lines

The skatepark was designed to be durable, fit for purpose and to budget. The skatepark is constructed as a reinforced concrete slab with the various elements consisting of reinforced concrete or sprayed concrete. To minimise surface cracking numerous crack inducers were incorporated into the concrete.
