The Architectural Design team are keen to offer sensitive, responsive buildings which meet our high standards of sustainability, low maintenance and economic cost-in-use.

The natural beauty of our surroundings and the availability of extensive natural resources informs our aim of respecting the landscape and being sensitive to the environment. We have a wealth of historic buildings throughout the area, and are keen to see them restored so that their historic legacy has a future in our region.

Our Projects

Schools - We have vast experience in schools' refurbishments and new builds and have responsibility for managing, designing and constructing the Council's non-PPP school estate programme. Read more about some of our Featured Architectural Design Projects.

Public Buildings - The Police and Fire and Rescue Service use our services to provide refurbished and new facilities. We also carry out improvement works for Council's buildings.

Leisure Facilities - A number of all weather Multi Use Games Areas have been constructed in recent years for the schools estate but are also open to the wider community. Read more about some of our Featured Architectural Design Projects.

Aids and Adaptations - We work closely with Care Services to provide aids and adaptations for vulnerable people of the community.

Building Maintenance - We manage and control planned and emergency repairs to Council Buildings through term contract. We operate a Help Desk to facilitate a speedy and effective response.

Mechanical and Electrical Services - DGDesign offers both a design and maintenance function for mechanical and electrical building services.

Technical and Computing Facilities - DGDesign is supported by an extensive back-up of technical and computing facilities, GPS and EDM surveying equipment, CAD services, electronic library information, specification writing and building management systems.

We have received a number of Awards and Commendations from the Civic Trust and the Saltire Society.

Our architectural services are fully accredited ISO 9001:2000. This accreditation also covers the activities of our civil engineering colleagues, giving our clients comprehensive, professionally managed and executed service. The service also has IIP accreditation.

We work in partnership with international consultants Mouchel, and with Solway Heritage who work locally to conserve, interpret and promote the natural, cultural and built heritage.
