Council Tax - Payments

Information on the options available for paying your Council Tax including online payments or other methods such as direct debit.

Paperless Direct Debit

Payment by Direct Debit is the most efficient and cost effective way to make payment of your Council Tax.

It is possible to set up Direct Debit Payments for Council Tax accounts over the telephone. Call on 030 33 33 3005. A member of staff will request your bank details and set up your Direct Debit immediately.

For Council Tax you can request deductions on the 1st, 15th or 21st of each month. Thereafter you will receive a letter confirming your bank details and your instalment amounts on your chosen instalment date. Alternatively you can still complete a Direct Debit Instruction for Council Tax and hand it in to your Local Customer Service Centre or post it to Dumfries and Galloway Council, Revenue Services, Carruthers House, English Street, Dumfries DG1 2HP.

Internet Payments

You can make payments online using our secure website. Follow the online instructions, providing your Council Tax account number and your Credit/Debit Card details. Payments will then be validated and applied directly to your account.

Please note that payments made by Credit Card will be subject to an additional charge, which equates to the card transaction charge levied on the Council by the operating banks.

Please can you have your Council Tax Reference number, your Credit/Debit card details including the last 3 digits on the signature strip and a pen and piece of paper ready to make the transaction. The cardholder must be present to authorise payment using a Debit or Credit Card.

Post Office or PayPoint outlets

You can pay your Council Tax with your Council Tax Payment Card or your barcoded bill at any Post Office or PayPoint outlet. Post Offices can handle cash or cheque payments up to £999.99, and PayPoint can handle cash payments up to £200.00 in any single transaction. You are not limited to the number of transactions to make in any day. If you would like to receive a Payment Card or if you currently pay by payment card and are moving home, please telephone 030 33 33 3005.

Payment can only be allocated to your current year Council Tax account, for arrears payment please pay online selecting the relevant payment year or phone our Operator Debit/Credit card system on 030 33 33 3005.

Telephone Payments

You can use the Dumfries and Galloway Council's Automated Telephone Payments Service to pay your Council Tax. The Automated Telephone Payments service is available 24 hours a day and the telephone number is 0845 603 2025. To use this service you will need to have your Council Tax account number, and Credit/Debit card details when you call.

When you dial the telephone number you will be greeted by a recorded message. This will guide you through a series of questions to give us the information we require to process your payment and allocate it to your account. You will be given a transaction reference number at the end of your call.
