Additional Support Needs - Placement in Mainstream Schools

The local authority works on the principle that additional support for learning provision is based in local mainstream schools wherever possible and appropriate.

For some pupils with significant educational needs this may be at a school which has a Learning Centre. Such facilities are equipped to higher levels in terms of staffing and material resources.

A Learning Centre is another teaching base within the school where children can work individually or in small groups, usually with higher adult / pupil support for specialist help. There are a range of schools across the authority with this provision.  Your local school should be able to provide you with further information.

The balance of time spent in the Learning Centre and other mainstream classes is considered on an individual basis as felt appropriate to a child's needs.
