Additional Support Needs - Assessment

Under law, parents have a right to request the Education Authority to assess if their child has additional support needs, and/or if their child needs a Co-ordinated Support Plan. Such requests can be made via the child's school in the first instance to get their views and advice.

If you feel the school has not properly identified your child's additional support needs or put in appropriate support to address them then you can make direct with the local education authority.

Additional support needs refers to any child who for whatever reason, requires additional support for learning, whether that factor relates to social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, disability or family or care circumstances.
