Free School Meals

The award of Free School Meals is to support families who live and attend a school in Dumfries and Galloway and in receipt of qualifying benefits. All Primary 1 pupils currently receive free school meals.


Primary 1 Pupils

Elected Members agreed in February 2011 to continue to provide free school meals to all Primary 1 pupils and this will continue during the academic year 2013/2014. 

Parents with children in P1 still need to complete an application if they require a School Clothing Grant.


Qualifying Benefits

  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker's Allowance (Income based)
  • Employment and Support Allowance (Income based)
  • Child Tax Credit on its own, with an annual taxable income of less than £15,910 (subject to change)
  • Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an annual taxable income of less than £6,420 (subject to change)
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act
  • Universal Credit (subject to change)

It is the responsibility of applicants to ensure they inform the Authority of any changes to their financial circumstances.


Payment

Schools will be informed of those entitled to Free Schools Meals.
