Adaptations and Aids at Home
If a person is visually impaired, hard of hearing or has other disabilities for which he/she may need adaptations to his/her home then Social Work Services may assist in overcoming difficulties subject to an assessment of personal needs to determine eligibility.
Some adaptations you may be entitled to for physical disabilities include:
- making your home wheelchair accessible
- creating a ramp access
- replacing your bath with a level access shower
- installing handrails
Services which may be available to people with a visual impairment include:
- equipment to meet daily living needs
- adaptations to the home
- teaching mobility and daily living skills
- counselling
- visual awareness training
Services which may be available to people with a hearing impairment include:
- provision of communication or alerting equipment
- provision of amplification equipment
- deaf awareness training
