The Emergency Planning team seeks to ensure the well-being and safety of the people of Dumfries and Galloway from the effects of emergencies, providing advice on legislation, regulations and policy matters related to emergency planning issues.

The Council is committed to the Major Emergency Scheme and has identified roles, responsibilities and appropriate personnel in individual Services to support these arrangements. It also aims to ensure critical services can be delivered in emergency situations.

Emergency Planners need a broad knowledge of the activities and responsibilities of all organisations in their area, together with an understanding and awareness of the work and organisation of the emergency services, public agencies, voluntary organisations and many others.
