Dumfries and Galloway Council signed a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) with Shanks Dumfries & Galloway (SD&G) on the 26th of November 2004. This agreement means that all Council collected waste in the region will be delivered to PFI contract agreed sites. At these sites the waste is treated to recover resources to help meet landfill targets for waste set by the European Union.
