Applications Types

Planning Applications made under the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Acts can be made in various ways and for various purposes.

For example, planning applications might be made for the following reasons:

  • Full planning permission, where all details of the application should be submitted when the application is made;
  • Planning permission in Principle, where an application is made without a large number of details and establishes the principle of development of that land for a particular use;
  • Listed Building Consent, which is an application for works to alter, extend or demolish a Listed Building, including internal works;
  • Conservation Area Consent, which is an application to demolish the whole of an unlisted building within a Conservation Area;
  • Advertisement Consent is required for certain types of advertisement and signage.

It is important to remember that if you wish to make alterations to a Listed Building or a building in a Conservation Area, special additional consent may be required. To find out if your property is affected, please contact the relevant Planning Office.

Decisions on planning applications submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council are made in two ways:

  1. Applications which fall within the Council's Scheme of Delegation will be determined by officers. (For further details on this matter, please see the Scheme of Delegation document on the Planning Application Forms and Guidance page.)
  2. Where an application falls outwith the Scheme of Delegation, it will be considered by the Planning Applications Committee. Furthermore, where an application is for a National development or a Major development which are significantly contrary to the development plan, the final decision must be made by the Full Council.

The ePlanning system allows the general public to access the official records of the Planning service in Dumfries and Galloway Council, the records start from 1st January 1994. The register allows you to:

  • Search for and view the details of a Planning Application
  • Monitor the progress of a Planning Application
  • View details of Planning decisions
  • View details of Planning Appeals
  • View details of Planning Appeal decisions

While every effort is made to ensure the information shown in the ePlanning system is accurate, this can not be guaranteed. You should check with Officers before making important decisions that rely on the data viewed.

It is important to remember that if you wish to make alterations to a Listed Building or a building in a Conservation Area, special additional consent may be required. To find out if your property is affected, please contact the relevant Planning Office.
