The school has a well maintained building offering spacious accommodation. This consists of one nursery class and four teaching rooms, an ICT suite/multi-purpose room, gymnasium and stage, library, kitchen, and dining room. There are well established grounds for learning including outdoor classroom and timecapsule garden, which has led to a fourth Eco schools green flag and Fairtrade status.
Wigtown Primary School embraces and celebrate the ideals and vision of the Curriculum for Excellence. It provides a welcoming and friendly atmosphere of active learning for pupils, staff and parents. The school promotes good citizenship and enjoys strong links with the local community and an active and supportive Parent Council. Thanks to wise and creative leadership over many years, the school has a long established positive culture whereby all that pupils achieve in all aspects of their development is recognised and celebrated.
Wigtown Primary School was the first school in the region to achieve permanent Green Flag status. The Eco committee is enthusiastically supported by pupils, staff and parents and its positive impact runs through the school.
It is surrounded by an educationally rich environment including farmland, the River Bladnoch, the Solway Estuary, the Harbour and a Wildfowl Reserve. The immediate area is historically rich in reminders of Wigtown's part in the Covenanting struggles of bygone days.
