Whithorn Primary School serves the town of Whithorn, the village of the Isle of Whithorn and surrounding areas. The school is part of a partnership with neighbouring Garlieston Primary School, the two schools successfully share a non-teaching Head Teacher and an active joint Parent Council. The school dates back to the last decade of the 19th century.  Several phases of alterations and refurbishment have provided a high standard of accommodation including 5 class bases, a family room, a computer suite, a large gymnasium/dining room and a modern kitchen. 

A children's centre providing nursery education for 3 and 4 year olds, accommodation for daycare for children aged 0-14 and multi-agency rooms was completed in 2001.
