Renewing and Extending Library Loans

Loan of items may be extended or renewed with the exception of chargeable items and those which have been requested by other readers.

There are three methods by which loans may be renewed or extended.  You can use our Book Renewals Online, do it in person or by telephone.

If you wish to renew your library books or audio cassettes but are unable to get to your library or have no access to the online renewal option this is not a problem.  You can telephone either your local branch or the library headquarters with your library membership number to hand.

Items will be renewed for a further three weeks from the date you renewed and not the date on which they were originally due for return.

Please note chargeable items cannot be renewed, and this is the same for any items which have been requested by another reader.  Please remember when renewing items whether by telephone or online that they cannot be renewed more than twice.  After this point you must return the items to the nearest library and then, if no one has requested it we can reissue them for a further three weeks.

We would advise that you try to telephone for renewals at least a day in advance of the return by date, if possible.  This would give you the opportunity to return any items which we have been unable to renew, either because they have been requested by another reader or have exceeded the renewal limit.

Should you need to make a telephone renewal outwith opening hours please call the Telephone Renewal line on 0845 2748080.
