pdf icon Commercial Training [760kb] of Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service was established in response to the growing demand for information regarding Workplace Fire Safety and the management of Workplace Health And Safety.

Safety training is important and a legal requirement - that's why it makes sense to arrange your training with the experts.  All of our courses are run by serving fire officers, who have been carefully selected for their skills, knowledge and expertise to give you peace of mind from knowing that training is being delivered by competent providers.

  • Have you carried out or reviewed your risk assessment recently?
  • Do you know what hazard and risks are?
  • Do you need training?

Do you have first aiders in the workplace to deal with injuries sustained from accidents, have they been trained properly.  Do you have an evacuation plan or fire wardens to ensure your members of staff leave the building safely and who could provide first aid fire fighting to prevent a small fire becoming large.

Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service are now delivering training services to the public sector at very competitive rates.

Please contact us and we can advise you or your company what Health and Safety courses may suit your needs.

Dumfries and Galloway Flooding Advice

Incidents of flooding within our communities are on the increase, and the prediction is for more rainfall and rising sea levels in the coming years. Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service recognise this fact and have produced this pdf icon Flooding Information document [810kb]. It contains a guide on actions to be taken before, during and after a flooding incident.

Emergency Response Standards 2011/12

pdf icon Local emergency response standards [148kb] are a requirement of integrated risk management planning and have been developed to take account of the differing emergency incidents a fire and rescue service responds to; risk to life and potential risk in respect to commercial, economic and environmental impact.  In essence the response standards are based upon having an appropriate number of fire appliances within the right areas to match the risk.

These Standards are developed and determined locally through analysis of actual risk within Dumfries and Galloway and should be viewed within the context of the Service's commitment to continuous improvement, increased Firefighter safety and the drive to make communities safer.

If you require any further information detail please contact Assistant Chief Fire Officer Hamish McGhie on 01387 252222.

Public Performance Report 2010/11

Dumfries and Galloway Fire and Rescue Service's performance is scrutinised through an ongoing reporting schedule, with an annual pdf icon Public Performance Report [1Mb] at its heart. The reporting process examines and sets out how the objectives set by our annual Service Improvement Plan were met and examines their effectiveness in improving safety within the Service's working environment and in our communities.  A suite of performance indicators are used to track progress and inform our future plans.

The rise in temperature following the extremely cold weather we have all been experiencing recently has resulted in a number of emergency calls being received by our Fire Control reporting burst pipes within properties in the Region.
  • Fire Prevention and Risk Management
"Many of us don't relate to the familiar chip pan fire image because we don't think that scenario will ever happen to us and we put the fire from our minds. But the chilling reality is that you are more likely to suffer a house fire in Scotland than be burgled". Former Deputy Justice Minister Hugh Henry.
  • Fire Service Recruitment and Vacancies
Do you see yourself jumping onto a fire engine, then screaming off into the distance, lights flashing and sirens blaring, off to save lives? There is more to being a Firefighter than wearing a uniform and racing around.
