Dumfries and Galloway is one of the most significant regions within Scotland for the Forestry Industry and associated business supply chains.
The region has Europe's largest commercial Sawmill namely Howies near Dalbeattie as well as one of the most modern Bio Mass operations in Stevens Croft near Lockerbie.
There will also become increasing Links between Forestry and the renewables sector as the Scottish Government has asked Scottish Power Renewables to explore windfarm developments on Forestry Commission Land.
Forestry is also increasingly linked to Tourism in the region particularly given the designation of Galloway Park as a 'Dark Skies area'.
There is a dedicated officer in Business and Enterprise that supports the Forestry sector and supply chain development. The officer also supports Forestry as a Tourism product.
