Winter Treatment Routes

Interactive map showing the treatment routes for salting roads across Dumfries and Galloway during adverse winter conditions.

The map below provides details of the:

  • 18 primary salting routes (proactive treatment response)
  • 10 secondary salting routes (reactive treatment response)
  • Footway treatment routes (priority F1 to F3)
    - F1: Busy urban shopping and business areas, and main pedestrian routes.
    - F2: Medium usage routes such as those feeding larger schools.
    - F3: Other medium usage routes through local areas feeding into primary routes, local shopping centres, clinics, schools and industrial centres etc. 
  • School access treatment routes - Note Schools identified by a blue triangle are part of the PPP contract between the Council and Amey therefore the responsibility for treating access routes lies with Amey.
  • Salt/grit bin locations

The treatment routes indicated are those on the local road network for which Dumfries and Galloway Council have responsibility. Trunk Roads, including the M74 motorway, are the responsibility of Transport Scotland. The M74 motorway is managed and maintained by Autolink and the A7 by BEAR Scotland. The other trunk roads, managed and maintained by Amey Infrastructure Services, are: A75, A76 (from Dumfries bypass north), A701 (from Dumfries bypass north), A77 (from Stranraer north) and A751
