Regional Transport Strategy

The Revised Regional Transport Strategy which was submitted to the Scottish Ministers has been approved by Stewart Stevenson, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change.

The Regional Transport Strategy sets out a vision for a transport system for the South West of Scotland that delivers the internal and external connectivity required to sustain and enhance the region's economy and communities whilst minimising the impact of transport on the environment.

Councillor Brian Collins, Chair of the South West of Scotland Transport Partnership welcomed the Minister's decision, noting: "This strategy is about delivering genuine travel choices. It is about providing access to jobs and public services, enabling goods to reach their markets and providing the links that promote social inclusion and support quality of life. It has been developed on a true Partnership basis through the Board Members, the Observers to the Board and the involvement of Key Stakeholders through two Key Stakeholder consultations and public consultation."
