Annual canvass of electors
We carry out a canvass each year of all households in Dumfries and Galloway to establish who is eligible to vote and make sure the electoral register is up to date.
We'll be sending a form to every household in Dumfries and Galloway. You must respond to tell us if there has been a change to your household or if your household details remain the same.
You can respond in one of four ways:
- Visit http://www.householdresponse.com/dumgal (you'll need the two part security code from the form)
- Complete and sign the form before returning it in the pre-paid envelope
- Call 0800 197 9871 (you'll need the two part security code from the form) - this is only if you have no changes to make
- Text NOCHANGE followed by both parts of your security code to 80212 - this is only if you have no changes
Complete and return the annual canvass form as soon as possible so you don't lose your voice on matters that affect you.
James Doig, Electoral Registration Officer said:
It's important that residents respond as soon as possible, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in Dumfries and Galloway. Please check the form when it arrives and respond as soon as you can.
If you're not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form. If you want to register, the easiest way is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we'll send you information in the post explaining how to do this. In any case, you will still need to complete the form and send it back to us.
People who have moved address recently are particularly encouraged to keep an eye out for the form and check the details. Research by the independent Electoral Commission indicates that recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.
