North West Community Campus - Dumfries Learning Town

The North West Community Campus will be a new school in Lochside, Dumfries. The facility will bring together the current Lochside Primary School, St Ninians Primary School, Maxwelltown High School and Langlands School.

Staff and pupils are expected to move into the new school by summer 2018.

A single building will incorporate all of the required facilities for nursery, primary and secondary education. The new facility will help ease the transition process for pupils throughout their education.

The new campus will also provide facilities available to the local community.

Key features

Facilities will include:

  • new sports facilities for the school and Maxwelltown Community Sports Hub
  • external sport pitches (including an all-weather pitch and a grass pitch)
  • redeveloped outdoor spaces to suit pupils of all ages
  • social spaces for community groups
  • a public library

Progress

Contractors began work on site in September 2016.

An event was held in November 2016 to celebrate the start of the project. A number of representatives from all of the schools involved, council staff and contractors attended the event. A number of pupils also spoke at the event and visited the site to help cut the turf to mark the start of building works.

The project is progressing to programme and is due for completion in June 2018. Langlands School is scheduled to move before the summer holidays and the full school will be open from August 2018. Officers are currently working on a transition over the summer holidays which will accommodate summer activities.
