Opportunities for pupils in Dumfries and Galloway

Pupils from each school in Dumfries and beyond are able to attend the Bridge during allocated slots for specialist subjects so there is less duplication of resources, greater consistency in teaching and more effective use of teaching time. School timetables have been coordinated to ensure there is a shared curriculum in the Burgh schools. This allows us to build on existing strengths in the town and create new opportunities for all learners by extending the choice of subjects available and working closer with partners in further and higher education. The facility will have extended opening hours and learning can happen outside traditional school hours.

Key features

The Bridge contains a range of specialist facilities that give the learners experiences that enable and enhance the transition from school to advanced study and the workplace. These facilities are unique and give learners the opportunity to apply knowledge in professional environments that we could not provide for each secondary schools across the region. These include:

  • Performance and Film Theatre
  • Lecture Space
  • Professional Kitchen
  • Design and Engineering Hub
  • Industry Standard Technology
  • Professional Laboratory
  • Media and Recording Studios

Teaching staff will be drawn from our local schools, other council services, further and higher education partners, specialist providers and partners such as Skills Development Scotland, Employability, NHS and local businesses.

The Bridge offers not only specialist facilities for learning, but the widest possible range of spaces for meetings and other purposes.
